Frequently asked questions

What services do you offer?

Sunny Start Therapies provides
• In home speech therapy
• In home occupational therapy
• Virtual parent coaching and consultations

All services are individualized and designed to support communication, motor development, regulation, and participation in everyday life.

What ages do you work with?

We support children from early childhood through age 12. We specialize in early intervention while also working with preschool and school-aged children.

If you are unsure whether your child is the right age to benefit from therapy, we are happy to talk through your concerns during a consultation.

Do I need a diagnosis to get started?

No. A formal diagnosis is not required to schedule a consultation or begin services.

If you have concerns about your child’s development, we can help determine appropriate next steps and whether therapy or coaching may be beneficial.

How do I know if my child is delayed?

If you notice delays in your child’s speech, language, motor skills, or difficulty with everyday tasks (like dressing, feeding, or communicating), therapy might be beneficial. We offer free consultations to help determine if our services are the right fit for your child.

what do in home sessions look like?

In home therapy takes place in your child’s natural environment.

Sessions are play-based, developmentally appropriate, and focused on real-life routines. Parents are encouraged to observe and participate so strategies can be used between sessions.

We currently only provide in home sessions in the South Jordan, Utah area and surrounding communities. Services outside that area may include additional travel fees.

why do you offer therapy in the home?

Providing therapy in the home allows
• Fewer transitions and less stress for children
• Skills to be practiced within real routines
• Greater parent involvement and carryover

This helps therapy feel practical and meaningful beyond the session.

How is virtual parent coaching different than in home therapy?

Virtual parent coaching focuses on supporting and guiding parents rather than providing direct hands-on therapy with the child.

Coaching sessions are collaborative and may include discussion, education, problem solving, and individualized strategies tailored to your child and family. This option is especially helpful for families who are currently receiving therapy, have participated in therapy in the past, or have specific questions or challenges they want support with.

Virtual coaching does not replace in home therapy, but it can be a powerful way to gain clarity, confidence, and direction.

Virtual coaching is a flexible, effective way to get expert support exactly when you need it.

DO you take insurance?

Sunny Start Therapies is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly.

Payment is due at the time of service. We provide detailed superbills that many families submit to their insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Coverage varies by plan and reimbursement is not guaranteed.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is an itemized receipt that we provide to you after services are rendered and payment has been made.

It includes information such as
• Your child’s name and date of birth
• The date and type of service provided
• Diagnosis and service codes
• The amount paid
• Provider and practice information

Families may submit a superbill to their insurance company to request possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Sunny Start Therapies does not submit claims to insurance directly and cannot guarantee reimbursement. Coverage and reimbursement amounts depend on your individual insurance plan.

We are happy to answer general questions about superbills and provide the required documentation. Families are responsible for submitting superbills to their insurance provider and following up on reimbursement.

Many families find it helpful to contact their insurance company in advance to ask about out-of-network speech or occupational therapy benefits.

how often will my child need therapy?

Frequency depends on your child’s needs, goals, and the type of support recommended.

Some families benefit from ongoing therapy, while others choose short-term support or virtual parent coaching. Recommendations are always individualized.

can speech and occupational therapy be provided together?

Yes. Some children benefit from a collaborative approach when communication, motor skills, and regulation are closely connected.

We will discuss whether combined services via direct in home therapy or coaching are appropriate during the consultation process.
